Pioneers Qualify for Open Cup

Full schedule and Camp dates released

The Western Mass Pioneers qualified for the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the 10th time in franchise history.  This knock-out cup tournament is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S.

“It is great for the team to qualify for the Open Cup” commented Head Coach Federico Molinari.  “There is a lot of history here and it is important for us to play well”.

The Pioneers will find out who they play and where on April 12.  The first round of the tournament is on May 10.  The first time the Pioneers qualified for the Open Cup was in 1998, where they made the second round.  The farthest the team advanced was in 2005, when they hosted MLS side Chicago Fire in a third round game.

Western Mass also released their USL PDL schedule.  They will play a fourteen game schedule starting May 13 and wrapping up July 16. The Pioneers home opener will be on May 13.  Season tickets are available for order at

“Last year we qualified for the playoffs and the Open Cup” stated General Manager Greg Kolodziey.  “That’s the mission again.  Hopefully we can host an Open Cup game and win enough to have a good season and qualify for the postseason”.
