Pioneers Add Five More
Team Coming Together for 2011 Season
The Western Mass Pioneers have added five players for the upcoming 2011 season: Midfielders Kyle Clancy, James Mooney and Jack Reid along with defender Trey Jasenski and forward Spencer Noon.
Clancy and Jasenski previously played for Pioneers Head Coach Joe Calabrese with the Albany Highlanders in 2010. With the Highlanders in 2010, Clancy’s nine assists were the second-most in the entire PDL. While at Dominican College, he registered a school record 171 points (75 goals, 21 assists). Clancy is now the head coach of the men’s soccer team at The Sage Colleges in Albany, N.Y.
“Kyle Clancy is one of the top outside midfielders in the league,” Calabrese said. “He is able to get up and down the line for 90 minutes. He provides quality service and has the ability to score goals in bunches. We expect Clancy to provide leadership on the playing field and inside the locker room.”
Jasenski started 15 games in 2010 for NCAA Division I Binghamton University after transferring from UNLV.
Reid is a six-foot-two-inch Englishmen who previously played for Reading United AC, the 2010 PDL Eastern Conference Champion. Earlier in his career he played with the youth feeder teams of Nottingham Forest, a top professional club founded in 1865 and currently competing in England’s Championship (second division) league. Just like Jasenski, Reid is capable of playing as a holding defensive midfielder.
Rounding out the group are Mooney and Noon, a pair of stars from an Amherst College team that finished 2010 nationally ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division III. In three years at Amherst, Mooney has scored 18 goals and added eight assists. Meanwhile, Noon has registered 20 goals and eight assists in just two years at Amherst.
“Each of these players brings numerous elements to our squad - competitiveness, athleticism, and the ability to adapt and play various positions,” Pioneers Assistant Coach Tim Larocca said. “Each has proven his ability to play and succeed at the highest levels. We look forward to having these players represent the club.”
