Pioneers Tie FC Boston

Host the Revolution U23 Team

The Pioneers maintained their spot at second place in the Northeast Division with a 1-1 tie at FC Boston Bolts Wednesday night.

Western Mass visited the Bolts at the Mount Ida College soccer field in Newton. The Pioneers came out hot and capitalized by scoring on a corner kick. Alex Wrona was able to swerve the ball right to forward Chae Brangman from Bermuda. Brangman was able to slot the ball past the goal keeper to go up one to nothing.

FC Boston played with much more vigor after that goal. While the Pioneers snuffed out many of the Bolt’s attacks, FC Boston’s Alex Ainscough was able to get the ball past hot Pioneers goalie Ben Martinez in the 74’. The game ended with a 1-1 tie.

The Pioneers next game will be against the Revolution U23’s at Lusitano Stadium on June 3, 7:30 PM. This is a special exhibition game, and the first time the teams will meet.

“This is a great opportunity for our players to have another meaningful game against good competition” stated Pioneers Head Coach Federico Molinari. “The Revolution U23 are well coached and have good players, they will match up well against us” continued Molinari.

The New England Revolution U23 started competing in 2016 and is not affiliated with a league. The players are primarily returning Revolution Academy players and talented college players.

The Pioneers return to PDL action on Sunday June 11 when they visit GPS Portland Phoenix. This will start a three game road trip for the Pioneers.
